Ford Rules Rear End Swap Ford Rules

First, I obtained a rear end from a local junkyard for $300.
It's a 7.5 with 4.10(no LSD) out of 97 Ranger with 19,400 miles.
Because of its condition and low mileage, I decided to take it.
Also, there were no damage on drive shaft; I though the rearend must be in good condition.
(If the drive shafts were in good condition, they will take them out)
Since it had low mileage, the brakes were in good condition, too.

I changed the fluid with mobil 1 gear oil (75w-90)
I drained the oil from inspection hole since it was not on the truck yet.

Make sure to choke the front wheels.
After that I raise the truck and set on the jack stand.
Now, I had to remove the parking brake cables from old rear end.
In order to do that, I had to remove most of the rear drum brake components.
I drew rough sketch of drum brake; just in case I forget something :)

Then I placed two jacks under the rear end to support.
And I removed the sway bar link, brake line, shocks, vent hose and U bolts.
Also, removed the drive shaft and set it on the box(anything).
I placed my creeper with rug under the pumpkin, and dropped the rear end.
Now, I was be able to remove the rear end.

I put the tires on my new rear end, so I do not have to carry it.
I used the two jacks to set the new rear end on my creeper
(of course, I had to remove the tires at this point)
I had to align the leaf spring, lift blocks and rear end straight.
Reassemble everything. Bleed the rear brakes.
Also, removed the parking brake cables from rear end, and used old cables on new rear end.

After I finished the swap, I realized thet new rear end was 2" wider that the old one.
Wider is better!

It took about 2 hours, and I did everything by myself. BUT I recommend to get someone to help.
Because rear end is heavy ;)

Old Rear End is for sale. It's a 7.5" w/ 3.45.
